The therapist has decided he can’t fix me. Depressing. I may have to give up running altogether. He wants me to talk to my GP about it. The problem is that if the foot bone is grinding against my leg bones when I run, then the bones will wear out faster. Walking doesn’t hurt as long as I don’t go too fast. So I may be limited to moderate-speed walking for my cardio. Bugger. I can’t see my GP until February 28th, because he’s out of the office until the 26th. I can see his assistant, but I’d much rather talk to the doc about it. I only like seeing the assistant when I have the flu or something lightweight.
To change the subject entirely for the moment: the television just played the Subaru commercial about the mom driving around the kid hockey players. While the Pogues’ “If I Should Fall From Grace with God” is an awesome song, who the hell thought it was a good idea for this commercial? I mean, the part they use is about dying. It has nothing to do with children, hockey, or cars, and one would think it’s too depressing for a commercial. Very odd.
(15 minutes later…) Adventure Time is fucking AWESOME. I love that show. (It was just on.) Rebecca Sugar, artist/songwriter/sometimes-writer for the show, has become one of my favorite entertainers. The Viking introduced me to her work. She posts her versions of AT songs online sometimes, and I love her voice. Hearing her sing makes me want to give her a big hug. Check YouTube for her stuff, and watch the show if you’ve never seen it.
And now, it’s time to do homework. Bleah.
I’ve been going to PT this month for my left… I don’t know what to call it. It’s the space between my shin and ankle. It’s where the tibia and fibula come together. They’re too close together, and so the little bone at the top of the foot can’t go between the bottoms of the leg bones when I walk or run. This is why I have trouble running fast or far. It’s annoying as hell, because I like running. It’s my favorite form of exercise. The therapist thinks he can fix me. I hope so. I’d like to be able to go longer than three miles without having to limp home.
Speaking of therapists, my psychologist wants me to start tracking my moods. I’ve downloaded an iPhone app called “My Mood Tracker.” It cloud syncs, which I like. I’m always terrified of losing the data on my phone. Anyway, it’s a cute app. You pick your mood by selecting the appropriate emoticon. It’s silly and adorable and I like it. It also tracks meds and sleep and stress and some other stuff. I hope it works out to be useful, since I paid $5 for it.
I know talking about food is boring, but I just have to say: tuna sashimi with spicy sauce is the best invention ever. Just sayin’.
I’ve decided to restart this site. I don’t really have anything in mind for it, except to share links and articles that interest me.
To start off, The Oatmeal (one of my favorite webcomics) has some awesome Valentine’s Day cards up. V-Day is my birthday. I’m only a few years away from forty. Forty! I don’t feel it. But, then, I’m a college student with no kids. My wardrobe is all jeans and T-shirts. I’ve had careers, but I’m starting over from scratch by going back to school. But I’m starting to get a silver streak in my hair — just a little bit of one so far — and my knees are bugging me enough that I haven’t been able to run lately. I miss running. I didn’t do it for a while because of depression, but now that that’s lifted I want to exercise again. Hopefully the physical therapy I’m doing this month will help my knees.
I’m currently reading two books: Matt Ridley’s The Red Queen: Sex and the Evolution of Human Nature, and Tom Standage’s An Edible History of Humanity. The Ridley book is from the early 1990′s. I’ve been meaning to read it since then, I’m sorry to say. I’m sure there have been new books on the subject since then, but I always wanted to read this one so I’m doing it. Standage’s book was recommended on Ravelry by… I forget her name. I asked for book suggestions in one of the groups, and this was one of the replies. I already read Standage’s A History of the World in 6 Glasses last month. It was an excellent look at how beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola have influenced the past 6,000 years or so. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and so far I’m liking An Edible History of Humanity as well.
This turned into a book review, sort of. Huh. I’m off to bed, I think. More tomorrow. (Maybe.)
